Tour Overview
This is a barrier-free tour that allows you to leisurely explore Nagasaki, the "city of hills."
From the cruise terminal, it's a 3-minute walk to Glover Garden. Take the Glover Sky Road, Japan's first inclined elevator to be officially recognized as a "road," straight up the hill. Electric wheelchairs are available for free rental within the garden, allowing you to comfortably stroll through the cobblestone paths on your way down. For lunch, enjoy the authentic taste of Champon at Shikairou, the restaurant where it originated. In the afternoon, visit Dejima, a reconstructed Edo-period trading post. A wheelchair-accessible course is available, allowing you to experience the history of Japan-Netherlands exchange during the period of national isolation.
Nagasaki is often thought to be "unsuitable for wheelchair users," but in reality, it has a wealth of unique barrier-free facilities, such as inclined elevators and electric wheelchair rentals. Overcoming challenges in this hilly city is also one of the tour's attractions.
Tour Highlights
The Glover Sky Road (inclined elevator) makes the slope barrier-free. Free rental of electric wheelchairs is available.
Enjoy an authentic champon lunch at Shikairou. This is the restaurant where champon originated, and it even has an elevator!
Dejima has a fully wheelchair-accessible course. You can tour the Dutch trading post from the Edo period in a wheelchair.
All spots are within walking distance and tram distance from the terminal. No long-distance travel required.
Accessible restrooms are available at all locations. Guides have already mapped the locations of the restrooms.

Examples of accessible locations
Glover Garden

This facility preserves and opens to the public the residences of foreign merchants who lived in Nagasaki from the late Edo period to the Meiji era. The most famous is the Glover House, the oldest wooden Western-style building in Japan (a nationally important cultural property), built in 1863, and the residence of Thomas Glover, a merchant from Scotland. From the grounds, a spectacular view of Nagasaki Harbor unfolds, and it is also known as the setting for Puccini's opera "Madama Butterfly." In 2015, it was registered as a World Heritage Site as part of the "Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution."

Dejima

Built in 1636, this artificial island served as the sole gateway between Japan and the West for approximately 200 years during Japan's period of national isolation. Today, the original buildings have been faithfully restored, allowing visitors to experience the captain's quarters and the daily lives of Dutch trading post staff. There are also extensive displays of miniature models and trade goods. In 2017, the Omote-mon Bridge was completed, making it possible to "enter" Dejima via the same route as in the past.
