Kotoku-in Temple (Kamakura Great Buddha)

Kotoku-in Temple, which enshrines the Kamakura Great Buddha, a symbol of Kamakura, is a must-see spot where you can experience an overwhelming presence and the romance of history. The national treasure, a bronze seated statue of Amida Buddha, stands approximately 11.3 meters tall and weighs approximately 121 tons. It was once housed in the Great Buddha Hall, but after natural disasters, it is now in its current open-air form. The temple grounds are beautifully maintained around the Great Buddha, and the approach is flat with few steps, making it a great place for anyone, including those using wheelchairs or canes, to comfortably and leisurely view the statue at their own pace. It is also possible to have the rare experience of walking inside the Great Buddha, allowing you to feel the profound history of Kamakura firsthand.
Accessibility Information
A ramp has been installed on the temple grounds, making it possible to visit in a wheelchair.
Wheelchairs are available for free rental.
Wheelchair-accessible restrooms and parking spaces for people with disabilities are available.
The interior of the Great Buddha is inaccessible to wheelchairs due to stairs (however, you can still fully enjoy it by viewing the exterior).
Admission fee waived for the person with a disability and one caregiver upon presentation of a disability certificate.
Komachi Street

This vibrant main street serves as a hub for sightseeing in Kamakura. Its greatest appeal lies in its diverse lineup of shops where tradition and modernity intersect. Alongside long-established Japanese confectionery shops and traditional craft stores such as Kamakura-bori (Kamakura wood carving), you'll find trendy sweets shops, stylish cafes, and unique original goods stores. The wide variety of food options is especially worth checking out, ranging from seafood dishes using Shonan whitebait to visually appealing takeout treats.
Accessibility Information
The entire street is paved and has no steps. Wheelchair accessible.
However, passage may be difficult during peak hours (avoiding congestion by arriving in the morning).
Since individual stores can be small, takeout is recommended.

Kamakura Misui

Located on a side street off Komachi-dori, this restaurant boasts of being the "original Kamakura udon" and serves homemade udon noodles. They make their udon daily from 100% additive-free domestic wheat flour, and serve it in an authentic Kyoto-style broth made with Rishiri kelp, mixed bonito flakes, and extra bonito flakes. The smooth texture of the noodles combined with the refined broth creates a gentle flavor that soothes a tired body after a stroll around Kamakura. The set meals, which include tempura and side dishes, are generously portioned. The brick exterior, reminiscent of the Taisho era, is also impressive. Set meals range from 1,080 yen to 1,290 yen. 50 seats available.
