Kumamoto Castle (castle tower)

Having bounced back strongly from the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake and now fully restored, the Kumamoto Castle Tower is a highlight of any Kumamoto tourist destination. Not only does it have a beautiful black and white contrast, but the top floor offers a spectacular view of the Aso Mountains. On this tour, you can use the barrier-free "special viewing path" to get a close-up look at the precious restoration process, including the stone walls, which are still under repair.
To access the inside of the castle tower, visitors can use the newly installed "Considerate Elevator" for those who have difficulty climbing stairs (please inform the staff at the entrance). This elevator allows visitors in wheelchairs to move smoothly to the observation floor. The exhibition spaces within the building also have passageways wide enough to make it easy for wheelchairs to pass through, and steps have been eliminated in many places. Please come and experience the new Kumamoto Castle, which combines the weight of history with the latest barrier-free design and can be enjoyed by anyone.
Sakuranobaba Josaien

Located at the foot of Kumamoto Castle, Sakuranobaba Josaien is a tourist facility that recreates the bustle of a castle town from the Edo period. It brings together a selection of gourmet foods and local specialties from Kumamoto Prefecture, allowing you to have an exciting time savoring local dishes such as "Ikinari Dango" and "Karashine Renkon" (karashi lotus root), and choosing souvenirs to commemorate your trip.
The facility is generally paved flat, making it very easy to move around in a wheelchair. The general information desk offers wheelchair rentals (five manual and two power-assisted wheelchairs *restrictions apply in rainy weather), and the site is equipped with a spacious multi-purpose toilet. This toilet is ostomate-friendly, and assistance dogs are also allowed. Many restaurants and souvenir shops are wheelchair-accessible, and there is a system in place to welcome elderly people and people with disabilities in both tangible and intangible ways, with on-site staff on hand to assist in times of difficulty.
Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art

The Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art, quietly nestled in a corner of Kumamoto Castle's Ninomaru Park, is an impressive modern red-brick building designed by architect Kunio Maekawa. The museum houses a decorated ancient tomb room, Western art by artists such as Rembrandt and Renoir, and many other art pieces related to Kumamoto, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in art in a tranquil atmosphere.
The museum entrance has a gentle slope, and elevators allow smooth access to each exhibition room. Regarding barrier-free facilities, wheelchairs, walking sticks, and strollers are available for loan (please request this from staff), and the multipurpose restrooms are equipped with ostomate-friendly facilities as well as universal seats (large beds). This allows those who require assistance with dressing and undressing to stay for extended periods of time with peace of mind. Surrounded by beautiful greenery, we promise you a relaxing time appreciating art.
