Dolphin watching (Amakusa)

Approximately 200 wild bottlenose dolphins live off the coast of Tsujishima Island in Amakusa, making it a rare spot in the world where you have a 98% or higher chance of encountering them year-round. You can see mother and calf dolphins swimming in groups and jumping, so close you can almost reach out and touch them, and their adorableness will soothe your heart. Normally, boarding and disembarking the boat involves steps and rocking, but this tour will be arranged with a carefully selected operator that clearly states that "wheelchair accessible" (note that conditions change depending on the tides and weather, so arrangements may not always be possible).
Amakusa Christian Museum

Located on a hilltop overlooking Amakusa City (within Martyrs' Park), the Amakusa Christian Museum is a historical museum showcasing weapons used in the Amakusa-Shimabara Rebellion and relics of hidden Christians (such as the Maria Kannon statue). It offers a tranquil and profound learning experience, allowing visitors to experience the aspirations of those who maintained their faith even during the period of prohibition. Despite its elevated location, the facility is highly accessible. An outdoor escalator and wheelchair lift are installed from the parking lot to the museum entrance, allowing visitors to enter smoothly without having to climb a steep slope. There are no steps inside the museum, and an elevator is available to access the second-floor exhibition room. Wheelchair users and seniors with mobility issues can comfortably view the exhibits without exerting themselves.
Amakusa Shiro Museum

The Amakusa Shiro Museum dramatically introduces the life of Amakusa Shiro Tokisada, who became the supreme commander of an uprising at the young age of 16, and the history of the Shimabara Rebellion through videos and dioramas. Located on a hilltop on Oyanojima Island overlooking the beautiful ocean, the unique architectural design makes it a spot that even history buffs can enjoy. A gentle slope at the entrance makes wheelchair access easy. The museum is equipped with a disabled-accessible restroom (multipurpose restroom) and offers wheelchair rentals. The exhibition space is spacious, allowing wheelchairs to pass each other without stress. Rest benches are also provided throughout, allowing you to explore at your own pace. This is a model facility for barrier-free tourism, allowing you to savor the weight of history alongside the beautiful scenery.
