Gozan Okuribi Bonfire

Five giant bonfires illuminate the night sky, starting with the famous "Daimonji" (character for 'Large') on Mt. Nyoigatake in Higashiyama. The others include "Myo-Ho" (characters for Buddhist Law) in Matsugasaki, "Funagata" (Boat shape) in Nishigamo, "Hidari Daimonji" (Left 'Large' character) in Okitayama, and "Toriigata" (Shrine Gate shape) in Saga-Toriimoto.

Hotel Nikko Princess Kyoto

Located in the Shijo-Karasuma area, this hotel boasts a prime location as a base for sightseeing. The interior is thoughtfully designed for accessibility, featuring wheelchair-accessible restrooms and spacious guest room corridors to ensure a comfortable and worry-free stay.

The hotel is also renowned for its water quality, using natural spring water throughout the entire facility—often called "the hotel with delicious water." Exclusive services for guests, such as the special viewing event for the Gozan Okuribi bonfires, make it a particularly attractive choice.

Horyu-ji & Chugu-ji Temples

Founded by Empress Suiko and Prince Shotoku, Horyu-ji is a World Heritage site boasting the world's oldest existing wooden structures. It is also famous as the very first site in Japan to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list. The vast grounds are lined with National Treasures, including the iconic Five-Story Pagoda and the Golden Hall (Kondo).

At the adjacent Chugu-ji Temple, the National Treasure "Bodhisattva Half-Lotus Statue" is enshrined. Its gentle expression is renowned as one of the "World's Three Great Smiles" (Archaic Smiles).

Accessibility Note: While there are gravel paths throughout the grounds, the seamless coordination between your Travel Supporter and the accessible taxi ensures you can tour the key highlights comfortably and safely.

Shin-Yakushi-ji Temple

Located to the south of Nara Park, this is a temple of the Kegon sect of Buddhism. Inside the Main Hall (a designated National Treasure), the Seated Yakushi Nyorai (Medicine Buddha) is enshrined in the center.

The sight of the Twelve Heavenly Generals (Juni Shinsho) surrounding the Buddha is truly breathtaking. These National Treasure statues, standing guard with wrathful expressions, are known as the oldest and largest of their kind in Japan, overwhelming visitors with their powerful presence.

Accessibility: The temple grounds are relatively compact. Using ramps, wheelchair users can enter the Main Hall to view these masterpieces up close.

Kinkaku-ji & Ginkaku-ji Temples

Kinkaku-ji (The Golden Pavilion) features a dazzling golden reliquary hall that reflects beautifully in the pond. Its opulent appearance is said to represent the Buddhist Pure Land Paradise.

In contrast, Ginkaku-ji (The Silver Pavilion) embodies the aesthetic of wabi-sabi (quiet simplicity). It is characterized by its serene atmosphere and distinctively beautiful sand sculptures, such as the "Kogetsudai" (Moon Viewing Platform) and "Ginshadan" (Silver Sand Sea).

Accessibility Note: While both locations have gravel paths and some steps, designated wheelchair viewing routes are established. With the help of your assistant, you can fully enjoy the beauty of these exquisite Japanese gardens.

Uzumasa Koryu-ji Temple

As the oldest temple in Kyoto, Koryu-ji is one of the seven great temples established by Prince Shotoku. Inside the Treasure Hall (Reihoden), the Maitreya Bodhisattva (Miroku Bosatsu)—designated as Japan's National Treasure No. 1—is enshrined.

Its graceful, compassionate expression, known as the "Archaic Smile," has captivated countless writers and artists throughout history. Spending quiet time facing this statue provides a moment of profound peace, sure to be a highlight of your journey.
